Who We Are
MPFI researchers conduct high-risk, high-reward research that pushes the boundaries of knowledge in cellular and circuit-level neuroscience. We strive to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers in imaging, molecular biology, genetics, and computation.
One of the most exciting things about modern neuroscience is the rapid development of powerful new tools to help us visualize the brain. MPFI prioritizes the development of world-class imaging techniques, novel biosensors, and advanced data analysis platforms to support innovative research.
Understanding the brain is a multi-generational endeavor. A critical initiative at MPFI is to train future leaders in neuroscience through graduate programs, postdoctoral fellowships, and international training collaborations. Through these programs, we cultivate a vibrant research environment that supports professional development and mentorship.

MPFI’s connection to the Max Planck Society provides a comprehensive network of scientific excellence that enables us to collaborate with top institutes worldwide. Beyond the Max Planck Society we contribute to large-scale brain initiatives and joint research projects with institutions throughout the United States and across the world.
Now more than ever, it is critical to advocate for a widespread understanding of and appreciation for science. Our public engagement program fosters a greater understanding of neuroscience through outreach events, school programs, and community partnerships. Our education staff and scientists work together to promote science literacy and inspire future scientists in South Florida and beyond.
