Toward using large-scale, cross-brain neuronal recordings to identify the brain’s internal signals
Time: 11:00 am
Location: MPFI – Elmore Auditorium
Host: Hidehiko Inagaki
Speaker: Carlos Brody
Neuroscience studies often link neural signals to external referents such as sensory stimuli or overt motor acts.Simultaneous recordings across neurons and brain regions open the possibility of examining how neural signals relate to each other and thus detect signals internal to the brain that are not timelocked to external referents. We argue that, as a field, we should consider the possibility that a substantial portion – perhaps most – neural activity could be composed of such internal signals.
